Nickelback has had one of the most incredible careers in the history of rock. They have dominated the charts on many occasions, lived one of the most lavish rock star lifestyles on the planet, and created some of the most entertaining shows on the planet. They show no signs of slowing down either.
The band got their start in 1995, when they formed in Hanna, Alberta. They would release two albums before really making it big: "Curb" in 1996 and "The State" in 1998. It wasn't until they released "Silver Side Up" in 2001 that they became mainstream icons. The album featured the hit single "How You Remind Me," which was a monster, dominating the top spot on charts around the world. The single featured raw talent with realistic storytelling, which really resonated with audiences around the world, but it didn't happen by chance. Obviously, the band had already had experience making music, but what really helped them stand out from the crowd was Chad's incessant drive to study what makes a song become a hit. By studying several chart toppers, he helped create what became an anthem that defined the year.
"Silver Side Up" was followed up by the awesome, "The Long Road," which debuted at #6 on the Billboard album chart and managed a very respectable 200,000 sales in the first week alone. It was eventually certified double platinum by the RIAA.
All told, Nickelback has created 10 studio albums and managed to sell over an estimated 50 million copies of their work to fans all over the world. They've also been honored with the accolade of being the "most successful rock band of the decade" by Billboard Magazine in the noughties.
